Dr Natasha Abeysekera is a dedicated unaccredited registrar in Dermatology with expertise in medical research, public health, and clinical education- committed to providing exceptional patient care and advancing dermatological research.
Dr Natasha Abeysekera is currently serving as a doctor with special interest in skin cancer at The Skin Lab, where she focuses on the early detection, diagnosis, and management of skin cancer, providing expert care to her patients. In addition, she is the Principal House Officer in Dermatology at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where she continues to expand her expertise in complex dermatological conditions and contribute to medical research. Prior to these roles, she gained extensive clinical experience as a Principal House Officer in General Surgery at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital.
Dr Natasha is currently completing a Master of Philosophy at the University of Queensland, focusing on the balance of sun exposure. She holds a Master of Public Health with a major in Global Health from the University of Queensland. Additionally, she earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Tasmania, where she was awarded the prestigious Andrew Platts Memorial Prize in Internal Medicine.
Dr Natasha is deeply engaged in dermatological research, with a particular focus on skin cancer, Merkel cell carcinoma, and the effects of sun exposure. Her contributions to medical literature include numerous peer-reviewed publications covering a wide range of topics, such as physician well-being, surgery, and the innovative applications of 3D printing in medicine. Through her research, she aims to advance evidence-based dermatological care and improve patient outcomes.
In recognition of her dedication and contributions to the medical field, Dr Natasha was awarded the 2023 National Doctor In Training of the Year award.
