Whether a result of acne or other skin trauma, scarring can be incredibly stubborn and difficult to treat. There are many types of skin scars, from atrophic to hypertrophic, boxcar to icepick, even those annoying red dots (post-inflammatory erythema) that remain behind after a pimple or bout of acne. All of these can affect our confidence, and prevent us from achieving that glowing, healthy-looking skin we are all searching for.
Thankfully, we have some wonderfully advanced, safe and effective laser technology at our disposal to rejuvenate the skin and reduce moderate to severe acne scars, restoring youthful, more even skin and with it – your self-confidence.
What to expect
Which lasers do you use, and how does the treatment work?
We use our Pico Genesis laser treatment to target scarring, as well as other textural concerns and pigmentation. It delivers ultra-short fractionated laser energy into the skin, creating channels of tiny micro-wounds. These remodel scar tissue, as well as stimulating collagen and elastin production for a tighter, more plumped appearance.
How many treatments do I need?
Your skin will look more refreshed and rejuvenated after one treatment, however, acne scar correction is generally achieved after a course of treatments, depending on the severity.
I’m booked in for a treatment! Do I need to do anything beforehand?
Great! We look forward to welcoming you to The Skin Lab. Prior to your treatment, we ask that you avoid excessive sun exposure. Please note that some skin types may be advised to prep the skin with topical skincare prior to laser treatment.
What happens during my treatment?
All The Skin Lab skin treatments begin with a comprehensive consultation where you’ll share your medical history, background and treatment goals. Together, we’ll formulate a treatment plan to achieve your objectives, which may include other treatments and skincare.
During your treatment, the laser energy pulse is applied to your skin at a rapid rate. Many have likened the treatment sensation to tiny warm dots on the skin.
What can I expect afterwards?
Following your treatment, you may experience some redness which will shortly subside.
Protection from sun exposure is strongly recommended to ensure optimal results and prevent pigmentation from reappearing.
