One of the most prominent signs of ageing and largest concerns for patients wanting to improve their skin is the appearance of lines and wrinkles. These are a part of our natural ageing process, but can be worsened by genetics, sun exposure, smoking, poor diet, lack of sleep, stress – the list goes on. There are a number of key areas that lines and wrinkles commonly show.
Areas of Concern
Face
Most clients are concerned with lines and wrinkles throughout the entire face, including the forehead, cheeks, and around the mouth and jawline. This can make us look not only aged but tired, unhappy, and other negative emotions we aren’t meaning to display.
Lips
It’s quite common to experience fine lines on and around the lips, particularly for smokers. Other major areas of concern around the mouth include the nasolabial folds (the lines extending from the corners of the nose to the corners of the lips) and marionette lines (the lines going down from the corners of the lips to the chin).
Neck & decolletage
Whether it’s a lack of extending our skin care products below the jaw, or ‘tech neck’ as a result of craning our heads down to look at our phones constantly, our necks seem to suffer more so than some areas, particularly lines and creasing.
Hands
Even when the skin on our face is flawless, the backs of our hands can give away age, having spent years in direct sunlight, being used as tools, and being more exposed to harsh chemicals and frequent washing.
Eyes
It’s the area we immediately send our gaze to whenever we speak with someone, so naturally imperfections around the eye region can be a major source of discomfort for some. These include not just lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet, but crepiness and loss of volume that often occurs simultaneously in the tear trough area.
